The 2012 Mini Premier League (MPL) was very successful like previous years. The fourth edition of MPL played by some very promising and talented under 9 cricketers gave everyone lot to cheer! This year, the under 9s were split into four teams; each with an assigned captain.
CCA Knightriders: Nitin Bhatt
CCA Chargers: Connor Cushley
CCA Royals: Rohan Magdani
CCA Superkings: Arjun Pancholi
Hinckley Town Cricket Club, now a part of CCA, proved to be a great platform playing outdoors for the first week of MPL where the cricketers put on a fantastic show of competition, sportsmanship, discipline and most importantly; quality cricket. The first week was dominated by Chargers as they won both their games comprehensively against Royals and Knightriders. Superkings and Knightriders played good cricket winning one game each out of two. Royals on the other hand, ended up with rather unfortunate results having shown a huge promise against the Chargers and Superkings.
Due to rain, the second week of this tournament was forced indoors at City Cricket Academy. Thankfully, with the facilities at CCA the games went ahead. On the finals day any of the four teams could win the tournament and this was exciting! In the last two group stage games, Chargers beat Superkings and Royals were beaten by Knightriders. This meant that Chargers, who were unbeaten in the tournament so far, entered the final against Knightriders. On the other hand, Royals took on Superkings for the fight to claim the third spot in the second final. An excellent display of cricket by Royals saw them taking the 3rd place in the tournament. The final between Knightriders and Chargers was tense. Knightriders held their nerves to win a nail-biting game. It was splendid to see such enthusiasm displayed by the young cricketers.
Special mention to Nitin Bhatt (player of the tournament). Nitin was instrumental in Knightriders winning the competition. He showed great leadership skills along with his cricketing skills.
These young stars and their parents deserve lot of credit for their commitment. The presentation ceremony, held by CCA coaches Laurence and Viraj, not only captured the attention of audience but inspired the young cricketers. These enthusiastic cricketers were awarded trophies by their coaches. The results of MPL and awards given out were as follows:
