Carnival title for academy teenagers

Leicester’s City Cricket Academy youngsters capped a memorable visit to Dubai by winning the Desert Cub Carnival.

The under-14 side beat the Desert Cubs by 17 runs in the final with Sameer Thakkar playing a match-winning innings.

The academy batted first in the final and were 101-8 before Thakkar smashed 22 runs off the last four balls playing some incredible shots including a six over point.

 

DSC 0277Tight bowling and disciplined fielding kept the Cubs behind the required rate, Sameer turning in a good spell with the ball to take the man of the match honours.

The players were based at the ICC Global Cricket Academy, in Dubai Sport City, during their stay and played a total of 10 matches, four of which were day-night games.

They also took part in a master class emphasising the importance of good technique which was conducted by former Pakistan all-rounder Mudassar Nazar, who is head coach at the Global Academy.

“The whole experience and learning was great for the young cricketers,” said CCA director Don Bhagawati.

“The youngsters had sub-continent style customised turf pitches which helped spinners during practice.

“That was something new for the batsmen and bowlers. The tour was one of the best we have organised.”
