Colour Clothing Tournament – Under 10’s, 12’s & 14’s

The second week of the City Cricket Academy – 7th Colour Clothing Tournament 2013 was a spectacular event!! Three age groups – Under 10’s, 12’s & 14’s were in action! All players participating were put in teams according to their ages. The tournament was held at the Leicester Grammar School.

12 matches were played each day and in total 60 matches were played across the groups in 5 days. The cricket was of great quality throughout and due to the format of bonus points all teams had a chance to qualify for the finals till the end. Every player had the opportunity to improve and there was some magical cricket played by the youngsters!

Fielding standard was exceptional in all age groups backed up by some innovative batting and accurate bowling.

This tournament has been special as in the first week where the under 16’s played – we had a foreign team from KIOC, Bangalore, India making the tournament international. All together in 10 days 80 matches were played – 1st week under 16’s – 20 matches, 2nd week under 10, 12 & 14’s – 60 matches.

The volume of matches was good for the young players as there were plenty of opportunities for cricketers. All the young player’s fitness, skills, stamina, and temperament were tested and the players thrived in the challenge.  The experience was educational for all the players and the enthusiasm shown by the youngsters was inspirational for all involved.

David Smith, Chief Executive Northampton County Cricket Club was the chief guest for the prize distribution and after his recent success with T- 20 at Northants – said that this tournament will definitely help improve cricket for the youngsters.

Under 10’s 

CCA Sixers beat CCA Redbacks to win the final with Spike Marlow putting in a Man of the Match performance with bat and ball. CCA Heat and CCA Stars finished 3rd and 4th respectively.

Under 12’s

The final between CCA Dynamos and CCA Outlaws was a great contest as both teams were almost equal on the points table throughout the week, but CCA Dynamos beat the Outlaws in the final by 8 runs to win the under 12’s tournament!  Saurav Thakkar made a sedate 30 in setting a target for the CCA Dynamos and was declared Man of the Match.  In the 3rd and 4th play off CCA Spitfires beat CCA Foxes.

Under 14’s 

 

CCA Cobras took on CCA Titans in the final, which was a really exciting game with the cobras needing 6 runs off 6 balls in a low scoring final. Sheil Sethi and Milan Thakkar kept their nerves getting the runs with one ball to spare taking CCA Cobras to win the title. CCA Cobra’s skipper Ravi Kanani got an important 28 runs in their chase and was declared Man of the Match.  CCA Warriors finished in 3rd place and CCA Lions 4th place.
