England cricketers pass on cricket tips to girls

A celebration of women’s cricket took place at the City Cricket Academy with more than 30 girls participating in a training session led by England women cricketers.

The players, aged between eight and 16, took part in the free-to-attend Girls’ Masterclass held at the academy last month and organised in conjunction with Narborough and Littlethorpe Cricket Club.

The trainers included England women’s cricketers Sonia Odedra, Tammy Beaumont and Rebecca Grundy along with national women’s coach and former Leicestershire player Carl Crowe.

Sonia also works at the City Cricket Academy as Operations Manager and was the first girl to play in the Leicestershire Everards Premier League.

She said: “Women’s cricket is on the rise with more and more girls playing the sport – there were almost 60,000 participants in the country last year.

“At the CCA, we believe everyone should enjoy playing the game. This Girls’ Masterclass is a further demonstration of our inclusive vision of cricket.”
