Knightriders win City Cricket Academy under-16 tournament

Knightriders proved the pick of the sides in the City Cricket Academy’s under-16 tournament at Leicester Grammar School. They overcame Houghton Dare Devils in the final by 31 runs.

Man of the match James Pakora cracked an unbeaten 49 and player of the tournament Josh Hallam added 34 as Knightriders racked up 128-5 in their 20 overs.

Dare Devils’ Yuvraj Odedra led the reply with 40 but Houghton were restricted to 97-8, Jai Pandit claiming 2-14.

For the first time in its seven-year history, the tournament, which gives young players a rare opportunity to play in coloured-clothing, featured an overseas side with Bangalore’s Karnataka Institute of Cricket taking part.

Don Bhagawati, City Cricket Academy director, said: “KIOC put in some spirited performances but it was challenging for them to play in English conditions. The learning experience was appreciated by their coach Irfan Sait.

“Usually bat dominates the ball in limited-overs cricket. In this tournament, the ball certainly had the upper hand.” Awards:
