Last-ball drama in MPL Finals Day

The final of a Leicestershire under 10s cricket tournament was wrapped up in sensational style with the competition being decided on the last ball.

A total of 32 youngsters took part in the 8th outdoor Mini Premier League, which took place on Sunday, June 19th and 26th, at Hinckley Cricket Club’s ground and was organised by City Cricket Academy.

Man of the match and skipper Zubin Bandi hit the winning runs to see his team, CCA Outlaws, secure the title against CCA Lions in a two-wicket victory.

Even the play-offs went to the last ball with four needed, CCA Sharks all-rounder Darius hit a boundary to take his team home against CCA Heats by one wicket.

Don Bhagawati, Director of CCA, said: “Overall there was fantastic cricket played by all the youngsters over two weekends.

“The Mini Premier League is the only hard ball league for under 9 and 10s in Leicestershire, possibly in the UK, and once again, in its 8th year, the tournament has proved popular and successful.”

The best batsman of the contest was Prem Damani, best bowler went to Keshav Sthanakiya and Thomas Scott was the best fielder.
